YoY Analysis

Year-over-year performance trending across orders, shipments, and key financial metrics broken down by operator, distributor, and manufacturer.

What Is the YoY Analysis Report?

The YoY Analysis report is a highly detailed, multi-period comparison table that shows performance data broken down by the dimensions you choose — operator, distributor, manufacturer, product, and more — across side-by-side time periods. While the name implies year-over-year comparison, the Timeframe filter gives you full flexibility to define custom periods, making it useful for any period-over-period analysis, not just annual comparisons.

Reading the Report

The report generates a table where each row represents a unique combination of your selected dimensions, and columns are grouped by time period. Within each period group, the following metrics are displayed:

  • Ordered Cases — The number of cases ordered in that period.

  • Delivered Cases — The number of cases actually delivered.

  • Sales Amount — Total dollar value of delivered product.

  • Weight — Total weight of delivered product.

  • Avg Dollar per Case — Average revenue per case delivered.

  • Avg Dollar per Pound — Average revenue per pound delivered.

Each period group is labeled by month name at the top (e.g., January, February, March), allowing you to scan across columns and immediately spot where performance increased, decreased, or held steady.

Row Dimensions

Each row in the table identifies the transaction at a very granular level, including:

  • Operator — The operator organization.

  • Distributor — The distributor that fulfilled the order.

  • Manufacturer — The manufacturer of the product.

  • DC Item # — The distributor's item number.

  • Invoice Number — The specific invoice this line item came from.

  • Invoice Date — The date of the invoice.

  • DC Customer # — The distributor's customer number for this operator.

This invoice-level granularity makes the YoY Analysis report the deepest data view available in Analytics — useful for investigating specific transactions within a broader trend.

Configuring the Report

Filters:

  • Distributor — Limit to one or more specific distributors.

  • DC — Narrow to a specific distribution center.

  • Operator — Focus on a specific operator.

  • Unit — Drill down to a specific location.

  • DC Customer # — Filter by distributor customer number.

  • Manufacturer — Filter by manufacturer.

  • Category — Filter by product category.

  • DC Item # — Search by distributor item number.

  • MFG # — Filter by manufacturer item number.

  • Date Range — Set the overall date range for the report.

Report Configuration:

  • Dimensions — Select which dimensions appear as row groupings in the table.

  • Metrics — Choose which performance metrics appear as columns within each period.

  • Timeframe — Control how periods are defined. Options include standard year-over-year comparisons or a Custom Timeframe, which allows you to define your own comparison windows.

How to Use It

The YoY Analysis is most useful for:

  • Measuring real growth — Compare ordered and delivered cases, revenue, and pricing across equivalent periods to determine whether the business is genuinely growing or declining.

  • Evaluating strategic initiatives — If a new distributor relationship, product push, or operator program launched mid-year, use this report to measure its impact by comparing before and after periods.

  • Annual planning — Pull full-year data broken out by month to support budgeting, forecasting, and goal-setting conversations backed by actual performance history.

  • Investigating anomalies — The invoice-level detail lets you drill into a specific month where performance spiked or dropped and trace it back to specific transactions.
